About American West Vancouver Chinese School (AWVCS)

Admin American West Vancouver Chinese School (AWVCS) was formed in 1998 when an influx of Chinese expatriats, who are here as a result of new industries in Southwest Washington, started looking for local schools that offer Chinese education for their children.

AWVCS was founded with its primary mission dedicated to educating students in speaking, reading and writing the Chinese language. AWVCS typically offers at least seven years of formal progressive Chinese education from learning Chinese phonics to Level 6 for students ages 5-18. We welcome students of all heritages to join us in learning the Chinese Language. Today, AWVCS offers Chinese education to everyone in Vancouver/Portland metropolitan area with a 100-strong student body. Classes are held at Hanna Hall in Clark College every Sunday afternoon during the regular school year. Parents and students are welcome to come visit the classes.

RECENT NEWS:
Portland Chinese Times New Year Celebration
We are so excited to be a part of the Annual Chinese New Year Festival at the Oregon Convention Center [Exhibit Hall A] this Saturday (2/11) from 11:00 am to 5:00 pm.

Our School Performance is a 15-minute slot between 11:00 am and 12:00 pm (noon).  Come cheer for our school!

Students who are performing should arrive 10:30am for preparations.

The performance sequence will be as follows:
     1.  Dance Team, followed by
     2.  Yo-yo Team, and then
     3.  Singing by our 1st Graders.

We will be in a smaller hall this year, so there is absolutely no getting ready out on the floor.  Please use Room A104 across from the Exhibit Hall.  If children have their bracelets on, they will not need to get back in line on their return.

Our School Booth will be open throughout the event.  Drop by and get your name written in Chinese Calligraphy, enjoy a fun craft, and pick up a bottle of water or a sweet treat.

Finally, Stanley and Christina Lo are holding some extra tickets for performers and volunteers.  If you are performing, you and an accompanying parent should get bracelets.  If you are volunteering in another way (e.g., setup, handling the booth, art, calligraphy, tearing down booth, photographs, etc.), you also get a free ticket.   If you have not received your your volunteer/participant tickets, please email awvcs@yahoo.com.   Also, we have a number of $3 tickets available for sale if you have family and friend who would like to attend.  Tickets are $6/person when purchased on the day of the event.  If you would like to purchase $3 tickets or if any volunteers or performers who have lost their tickets please contact us at awvcs@yahoo.com to see if there are extras due to cancellations.

Thank you in advance for all your support in making this a memorable event.  We look forward to seeing you Saturday.

Sincerely,
Stanley Lo and Marion Wong
