Current Classes in Chinese School
AWVCS is dedicated to educating students in speaking, reading and writing the Chinese
language. AWVCS typically offers 7 years of formal progressive Chinese education
from Phonics to Levels 1-6 (ages 5-18).
There are 3 classes per Sunday session from 1:30 pm - 4:20 pm with two formal language
classes, followed by an optional cultural 3rd class designed to enrich
academic learning with cultural experiences including Chinese calligraphy and painting,
folk dancing, arts and craft, Chinese chess, Chinese yo yo, and much more.
We have added three new classes in the past two years, and we are happy to announce
that they are very successful and we will be offering them again this year.
- PRE-SCHOOL CLASS introduces Chinese to Mommy/Daddy & Me for 3-6 year
olds with their parents.
- CONVERSATION CLASS for students of all ages who simply want to learn how
to converse in Chinese.
- ADVANCED CLASS for students beyond Level 6, especially those requesting
for Level 7 and SAT II classes.
In addition to these classes, we will also opportunity for students and parents
who would like extra help with homework or revise class materials during the 3rd
class. The sessions will be held in free-form, relaxed format.
There are two semesters in a school year, starting in early September. First semester
of the school year begins in early September; and semester begins in mid-January
and ends in mid-June.
Students will also participate in a range of cultural events including Chinese Teachers
Day, Poetry Recital/Harvest Festival, Chinese New Year, Mother's Day, and a end-of
the-school-year Awards Ceremony.
Classes are not categorized by age, but by individual student's ability and mastery
of the Chinese language. There are at least two exams per semester on a range of
written and verbal tests depending on individual teachers.
